Note: David Roentgen (1743-1807) was a German cabinet-maker who trained in his father's (Abraham) shop and ultimately inherited it in 1772. He was known for beautiful marquetry inlays and creating mechanical furniture. He had Queen Marie-Antoinette of France and Empress Catherine the Great of Russia as great patrons who encouraged him to great heights. In the late 18th century he was known for simple mahogany veneers inlaid with brass and fitted with secret drawers and a sophisticated mechanical interior. He had shops in St. Petersburg and Berlin and influenced many. This architects table is influenced by Roentgen's designs and cabinet-making skills.
