Note: Marcus Aurelius was a Roman Emperor from 121 to 180 and a Stoic philosopher. He was born during the reign of Hadrian to the emperors nephew. He studied Greek and Latin and was the last Emperor of Pax Romano. He acceded to the throne in 161 with his adoptive brother who took the name Lucius Verus. His reign was marked by military conflict, and he is often portrayed on horseback with his right arm raised. The Antonine Plaque broke out in 165 or 166 and devastated the population of the Roman Empire, causing 5 million deaths.
