Note: Didion cherished her small collection of hurricane lamps as reminders of her family's pioneering history. She references them in her writing, notably in The Year of Magical Thinking. Anecdotally, Didion's family said the hurricane lamps were some of Didion's most favored possessions. They were lined up on the windowsill in her apartment with a view of the spire of St. James' Church as a backdrop.
