The 'Nursery Mat' depicting Inuits, sled dogs, seals, and other scenes of Northern life with 'Grenfell Labrador Industries' label, the fishing village scene mounted in frame probably Manoir Richelieu.
The 'Nursery Mat' 25 3/4 x 20 in.
Note: The charming 'Nursery' rug is referred to as such because it was likely intended for a child's room with typical scenes of northern life. This design by a Labrador woman was in production by 1936 and often reproduced as the cover for a calendar. A similar example of this design can be seen in Paula Laverty's Silk Stocking Mats (McGill-Queen’s Press, 2005) on p. 105.
