The catalogue will be available on January 17, 2025. Highlights in the sale include weathervanes and important Americana, Folk Art, works on paper by Charles Burchfield and John Marin, Marine paintings, and a selection of Western bronzes.

The 'Nursery Mat' depicting Inuits, sled dogs, seals, and other scenes of Northern life with 'Grenfell Labrador Industries' label, the fishing village scene mounted in frame probably Manoir Richelieu.

Note: The charming 'Nursery' rug is referred to as such because it was likely intended for a child's room with typical scenes of northern life. This design by a Labrador woman was in production by 1936 and often reproduced as the cover for a calendar. A similar example of this design can be seen in Paula Laverty's Silk Stocking Mats (McGill-Queen’s Press, 2005) on p. 105.

Condition

The largest mat with scattered staining and fading. The others with scattered staining and fading overall, consistent with age and use. Some minor fraying to the edges.
