Fitted with a white veined marble top with slightly outset corners. The top drawer sliding and opening to a writing surface with the central 'box' sliding out to reveal two secret drawers. The right secret drawer spuriously inscribed in ink 'Roentgen-Neuwied'.

Condition

Very minor nicks and scuffing to the marble top. In good overall condition with a french polish throughout. Minor scuffing to the leather lined writing surface. The short drawers in the secretaire are mahogany lined and beautifully made. The side door is locked and without a key. Ormolu handles and escutcheons of a later date. Structurally sound and of very fine quality.

Sold Sotheby's Monaco, February 13, 1983, lot 487 (where it was fitted with further mounts and different escutcheons) and described as 'bearing a stamp J.F. Leleu' (apparently now effaced).
