Ink and gouache on paper, 1952, signed with initials 'EB' and dated at bottom center, titled upper left, inscribed 'Statue/Act III' upper right. 12 x 9 in. (sheet), 16 1/2 x 13 in. (frame).Note: This drawing was one of many done by Berman for the set of Verdi's La Forza del Destino. The Metropolitan Opera mounted its second production of La Forza in 1952 under the direction of Herbert Graf, with stage and costume design by Eugene Berman. The Graf-Berman Forza was revised and presented again in 1975, after Berman's death, directed by John Dexter, with James Levine, conductor.
