Gouache on paper, unsigned. 9 1/2 x 8 in. (sheet), unframed. Provenance: Collection of Lucien Goldschmidt; gift of Nicholas Goldsmith (son of Lucien Goldschmidt). Note: Eleanor Vere was born in Scotland and moved to England to marry Richard Cavendish Boyle, the son of the 8th Earl of Cork. Her husband was a rector and later served as chaplain to Queen Victoria. Boyle is known for her Victorian-era illustrations for children's books and her watercolor and gouache drawings, specifically drawings of gardens and garden design. Because of her social standing she rarely exhibited or sold her work during her lifetime.,
