Oil on aluminum with wood, 1971, signed 'Yaacov Agam', titled, dated and inscribed 'Paris' on the reverse, signed again 'Agam' and dated on the reverse. 43 x 50 in.Note: Agam made this work as a commission in 1971 for the current owners. It is one of what the artist termed his metapolymorphic" works, meaning that is has the ability to exist in more than one way for the viewer. This philosophical approach to creating art was borne from Agam's religious upbringing and is central to his work which succeeded in moving beyond the contraints of traditional two- or three-dimensional art. Time-Step is an example of Agam's architectonically integrated geometrical imagery, where the viewer can experience the changing visual pattern of the work by moving from one side to the other or looking from top to bottom. The works asks the viewer to actively participate in the visual and physical experience, giving way to an ever changing "image".Provenance: The artist.",
