Note: In the mid 1860's Ephraim Colman, a carpenter in Sussex, England had an idea to make a chair with an adjustable back. The idea was sketched by Warrington Taylor and adapted by Philip Webb for an armchair to be produced by William Morris and Company. 

Condition

The upholstery is soiled, with scuffing, gouges and wear to the armrests and slight wear throughout. Minor pitting to the brass sabots and back support.
