Oil, enamel, silver and gold dust on wood, unsigned, 1951, with label from Betty Parsons, NY and the California Palace of the Legion of Honor.

36 1/2 x 48 in., 38 x 50 in. (frame).

Note: Congdon wrote of this work  “…a large orange Pisa, rather rich and dripping like a brocade…”. Also in the same letter to a friend in 1951 Congdon noted that The Phillips Collection in Washington DC was interested in the painting and that it had been sent to them following its return from an exhibition in California.

Condition

Some surface soiling and a few tiny scattered losses showing mostly lower left.Otherwise in very good condition.Not withstanding this report or any discussion concerning condition of a lot, all lots are offered and sold "as is" in accordance with our conditions of sale.
