Note: Walter and Matilda Gay lived a charmed and interesting life in the haute société of France where they rented the lovely Chateau de Fortoiseau from 1895-1904. The property of the Baron d'Astier de la Vigerie, the chateau was the subject of many of Gay's watercolors, including various views of the salon, as here, with a focus on the chimneypiece and the Imari vases.

Black and white chalk sketch on the reverse. Mat staining and creasing. Otherwise in good condition.
