A true connoisseur, Tavitian assembled an extraordinary collection of English furniture, decorative arts, European sculpture, and garden statuary. Note: Vincenzo Gemito was born in Naples and was part of a group of sculptors of the second half of the 19th century known as "Neoflorentines" who were inspired by the Italian Renaissance. Gemito created a wide range of sculptures and drawings. It was not until after 1909 when he focused on Medusa as a subject and muse. Several wax sculptures by Gemito are known, including the present example, which is one of several heads of Medusa known to be by the artist.

Condition

The wax with wear and some losses. Otherwise in good condition.
