The upper socle cast with the portrait heads of Milton, Shakespeare, Scott, Stephenson, Watt, Wellington, Nelson and Peel.

Note: This model appears as model no. 27 in the 1874 catalog of Andrew Handyside. Andrew Handyside acquired the firm in 1848, formerly owned by Weatherhead and Glover 1818-1843; thence Thomas Wright 1843-1848. Handyside expanded the production to cover architectural, engineering, and decorative wares such as garden vases and fountains. The firm exhibited a number of pieces at The Great Exhibition of 1851, including Medici vases, a Bacchanalian vase, and a bronzed vase of the present lot together with a fountain.

Condition

Expected wear and residue consistent with outdoor placement. The basin secured to pedestal with four bolts and the pedestal base secured on custom base.
