Note: A nearly identical Tuareg leather pouch with pipe is illustrated in Marc Ginzberg, African Forms, Skira, 2000, page 124, and is noted that it is unclear what the purpose is of the four flaps, it is decorated in a curvilinear design that is typically Moorish. The pipe, on the other hand, laminated of brass, ebony, stone and silver appears to be of Tuareg construction. The Saharan peoples frequently intermingle. The bowl of the pipe is so small, it may have carried stronger stuff than tobacco.
