Note:  A similar piece was exhibited at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1987- 1988, Houses for the Hereafter, Funerary Temples from Guerrero, Mexico. From the Collection of Arthur M. Bullowa, illustrated, pg. 23, plate 17.

Julie Jones, note from The Metropolitan Museum catalogue accompanying the exhibition: "The Funerary temples of the Mexican state of Guerrero are small, evocative stone sculptures. Not much larger than pocket size, the stone temples are shaped like ancient houses; when interred they may have served as a personal assurance of a place in the afterlife. The temples came to light in the last hundred years, and their reductive simplicity causes them to look both ancient and modern, and ambiguity that adds greatly to their appeal. Guerrero sculpture has many forms - human figures, animals and masks, as well as temples." Julie Jones, The Metropolitan Museum catalogue accompanying the exhibition.
