Note: These tiles were made during the reign of King Djoser, they were discovered in the 19th Century and date to roughly 2600  B.C. They were used to line the walls of the funerary apartments in King Djoser's Step Pyramid at Saggara. The faience wall was created to imitate reed matting which was similar to the interiors of his palace. The pyramid was excavated by the British troops in the 19th century. These tiles are distinctive and specific, nothing like them was made in Egypt or elsewhere. The Metropolitan Museum in NY has a wall panel from King Djoser's funerary apartments for further reference.
