Note: Antinous was a Bithynian Greek youth and a favorite of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. Antinous was deified on Hadrian's orders and worshipped in both the Greek East and Latin West after dying under mysterious circumstances along the Nile. Antinous accompanied Hadrian to the annual Eleusinian Mysteries in Athens, and was with him when he killed the Marousian lion in Libya.
