Pencil on paper, 1926, signed 'Stuart Davis' and dated lower right.
15 3/8 x 12 5/8 in. (sheet), 23 1/4 x 20 1/2 in. (frame).
Note: Our thanks to Karen Wilkin for confirming the authenticity of this drawing. The sitter is Bessie Chosak who was Davis' first wife. This drawing appears to be a preliminary study for a pencil portrait of Bessie that was completed in 1927 (CR #225). During the Depression, Bessie and Davis lived with her relatives in Brooklyn until her death in 1934. This drawing was found by a relative hidden behind a family photograph.
