Oil on canvas, unsigned, lined.

Both 38 3/4 x 50 3/4 in., 45 x 57 in. (frame).

Note: This pair of still lifes was ascribed to del Tintore by Mina Gregori who dated them circa 1670-1680. Del Tintore was a Luchese artist who trained under Pietro Paolini, working in a refined style of naturalism similar to that of Caravaggio. This pair is a variant of his still life in the Mazzarosa Collection in Lucca. Unlike the Mazzarosa work, this composition includes a watermelon (see G. and E. Bocchi, ed., Naturaliter, pp. 488 and 492, fig. 618). John T. Spike and Davide Dotti have both endorsed the attribution to Simone del Tintore from photographs, as has Ludovica Trezzani who found both paintings 'exceptionally fine'.
