Sene Pere maitre in 1743.

36 X 23 X 20 in., seat height 17 in.

Note: Jean Sene, called 'Le Pre' and born circa 1695 was the first of a famous dynasty of chair-makers and was established in the rue de Ciry. He became master joiner around 1709 but used his stamp only from 1743 when new regulations made it compulsory.

A similar pair of Louis XV side chairs stamped SENE. LEPERE was sold at Ader Picard, Tajan, Paris, December 5, 1989, lot 165.

Condition

The upholstered pair in good overall condition with the painted and gilt surface refreshed. Both with new corner blocks. The muslin upholstered chair with nicks, minor splits and a repaired seat rail with wear to the surface. Good scale with sound frames.
