Four lithographs in black on paper, 1839, from Crania Americana. 10 1/4 x 10 1/4 in., 14 1/4 x 14 1/4 in. (frame). Note: Dr. Samuel Morton's interest in physical anthropology lead him to study and classify cranial capacity as an indicator of intelligence. In his book Crania Americana, Morton illustrated and classified thousands of human skulls, and then ranked the world's races bases on his theoretical findings.
