Note: This porcelain service was commissioned by Empress Josephine for Napoleon's sister Her Imperial Highness Princess Borghese, Pauline Bonaparte. The first group of wares was delivered to her on November 6, 1805. This service while historically important, was unidentified until recently. The service was possibly used at the château de Neuilly-sur-Seine when Pauline received it as an endowment in October 28, 1808.  Remaining largely unknown for 200 years, the service was recently rediscovered through the descriptions in the Sèvres archive which note the gilt swan decorations on green ground, the pale blue background and the various cameo portraits featured in the center.  Images of a cup and two plates were published in Napoleon I and Sèvres, L'art de la porcelaine au service de l'Empire, a collective work under the direction of Camille Leprince, Paris, 2016, p. 260.
