Oil on canvas, c. 1965, signed 'Kuntz' lower right, with a label on the reverse indicating that this painting won first prize at the 1965 L.A. Home Show. 40 x 50 1/2 in., 40 1/2 x 51 in. (frame).Note: California painter Roger Kuntz was part of the Claremont Group, graduates and professors of Pomona, Scripps and Claremont colleges who worked in a similar style in the 50's and 60's. Kuntz was a figurative artist who transformed his subjects-domestic scenes, figures and freeways-into almost abstract forms. In her 2009 catalogue, curator Susan Anderson wrote that Kuntz's work of the late 50's and 60's quintessentially embodied the experimentation, fragmentation, and paradox in the American culture of the time".",
