Lithograph in colors on wove paper, 1986, signed with initials and dated in pencil, numbered 49/50.
43 x 34 in. (sheet), 44 x 34 in. (sheet).
Note: California artist Richard Diebenkorn grew up in San Francisco and spent most of his life in California, living at various times in Sausalito, Berkeley, Santa Monica and Healdsburg. His work reflects the bright light, palette and natural beauty of his, and Didion's, home state. Influenced early in his career by the work of Matisse, Diebenkorn developed a unique abstract language with flat, planar areas of color arranged around geometric "grids", as here. This lithograph epitomizes the style associated with Diebenkorn's later career while living in Santa Monica. It was produced at Gemini G.E.L. in Los Angeles.
