Note: Thomas Hope, 1769-1831, was a British collector, designer and writer. Raised in the Netherlands, he came from a wealthy family of collectors and took the Grand Tour at an early age. He was greatly influenced by his travels and his upbringing. Hope helped to shape and influence the Regency period in England by his designs and interiors. The above offered chair is an amalgam of several styles including the overall klismos shape with a classical foliate scrolled back splat and Regency reeded legs.

Minor fading to the backrest with minor age splits throughout. Missing one button decoration on the backrest. Very minor nicks and old repairs to the legs. Caning in good condition and structurally sound, very deep seat, beautifully carved. Not withstanding this report or any discussion concerning condition of a lot, all lots are offered and sold "as is" in accordance with our conditions of sale.
