Carved with an Egyptian Pharaoh on the top crest flanked by a  pair of crocodiles, surrounding the convex mirror plate within a berried laurel border, fitted with a pair of candle branches with lion masks, and terminating in a winged jaguar mask.

4 ft. 4 in. x 29 3/4 in. diam.

Note: The Egyptian revival movement in the early 19th century was inspired by Napoleon's conquest of Egypt, and Admiral Nelson's defeat of Napoleon at the Battle of the Nile in 1798. Napoleon took a scientific expedition with him to Egypt and publication of the work was produced in 1809. Many drawings and engravings showed images of the pyramids, sphynx and hieroglyphics which influenced the taste-makers, cabinet-makers and architects of the time.

Condition

Minor chips and nicks to the painted and gilt surfaces throughout. Age splits on the borders surrounding the convex mirror plate which has scattered oxidation. Fantastic model and great quality. Not withstanding this report or any discussion concerning condition of a lot, all lots are offered and sold "as is" in accordance with our conditions of sale.
