With a circular, fluted ebonized drum case with an engraved brass disc incised with a central staircase leading to a classical Royal Arch" portal which opens to a clock, flanked by two columns with papyrus capitals topped by celestial and terrestrial spheres, centered at the top with the Masonic "eye" and centered at the base is the iconic Mason tool, the square and compass flanked by two other Freemason tools, the rim engraved with Bracegirdle, Fecit and Pyddesleigh Hill, sculpsit; raised on a tripartite base with frogs gazing upward, ending on chimeras at the knees on ball-and-claw feet. Inscribed on the reverse side of the clock face, SELWOB or BOWLES spelled backwards, possibly a bit of Masonic obfuscation. 17 5/8 x 10 9/16 in. diam. Note: The time is revealed within the doorway which opens slowly when the clock is wound. There is a key accompaning this lot.
