Note: Paul Feeley joined the staff at Bennington College in 1940,. He was integral in establishing its Art Department and working with notable students such as Helen Frankenthaler. Feeley helped organize several seminal exhibitions during his tenure at Bennington, including the first retrospective of David Smith, and retrospectives of Hans Hofmann, Jackson Pollock and Keneth Nolad curated by Clement Greenberg. Known in the sixties as a Color Field painter, Feeley's earlier work is gestural in the style of the Abstract Expressionists.
