Note: The original Medici vase is a monumental marble bell shaped krater sculpted in Athens in the second half of the 1st century AD as a garden ornament for the Roman market. It is carved with a mythological bas-relief that successfully defies secure identification. The vase reappeared in the 1598 inventory of the Villa Medici, Rome, and transferred from the villa in 1780 to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence where it remains today.

Condition

A few repaired corners to the marble socles with minor nicks. Slightly weathered patina on the vases, both in good overall condition. Grand scale. Not withstanding this report or any discussion concerning condition of a lot, all lots are offered and sold "as is" in accordance with our conditions of sale.
