Note: Depicting one of the most dramatic stories in the Bible (Genesis 22:1-14), the scene here is the moment when Abraham was about to slay his son Isaac in submission to God's command and an angel suddenly appears to halt the sacrifice. Sarto painted three versions of this composition.

The panel slightly warped, cradled in two places. Horizontal splits, inpainted.
