The two letters sent to Russell Doubleday and each signed with initials 'CDM', one with letterhead from the New York Evening Post and dated July 24, 1923, the other with letterhead from The Saturday Review and dated February 4, 1934; together with a photograph, inscribed 'For R.D. with affectionate greetings from a former slave! C.D.M.', 9 5/8 x 7 3/8 in.
