Note: Max Ernst had a fascination with birds and used bird imagery in his work often. Ernst created an alter-ego for himself in the form of a bird named Loplop who appears in many works throughout the years and became a link to the artist's subconscious. This drawing does not appear in Max Erst, Ouevre-Katalog. It was at one time part of the collection of the Belgian Surrealist poet and artist Marcel Marien. 

Condition

Several small tears at the sheet edges. The right edge irregularly trimmed. A small split center right. Creasing and surface soiling.
