Note: Marcelle Cahn was born under German rule in Strasbourg, France, moving to Berlin with her family in 1915 where she studied art under Lovis Corinth and Eugen Spiro. From 1920 on, she spent her time between Paris and Strasbourg, studying at several different art academies. She showed her work at the Galerie Parisienne d'Art with students of Fernand Leger in 1926, and at the Société Anonyme's fist New York exhibition that same year. Cahn became a loose member of the Abstraction-Création group of artists formed in Paris in 1931 under the leadership of Theo Van Doesburg, August Herbin, Jean Hélion and Georges Vantongerloo. Their philosophy of art ran counter to that of the predominant Surrealist group, though their work varied greatly in style and substance. Cahn showed her work regularly at the Société des artistes independants and the Salon des Independants.

Exhibited: Salon des Independants, Paris, 1954.
