With a two candle slides, a fitted interior, with tooled leather document cases and writing surfaces, raised on cabriole legs ending in sabots.

42 3/4 x 4 ft. 3 in. x 29 1/2 in.

Note: While apparently unsigned, this bureau à cylindre with its musical trophies and reserves with quarter veneered panels within broad scroll outlines relates to the work of Denis Gentry (maître in 1754). A closely related bureau bearing the maker's stamp was sold by Drouot, Paris, lot 205. Another is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Francais du XIIIe Siecle, p. 354. Other possible makers are Francois Bayer and Francois-Gaspard Teune, for which there is a small scale example in the Louvre inlaid with floral bouquets.

Condition

With key. The central drawer and a side drawer locks do not appear to function. The writing slides and roll top are stiff to use. Veneer replacements along the edge of the pull out writing slide. Minor patches and veneer lifting throughout. The leather on the writing surfaces likely replaced. Minor wear and a few splits, losses and small repairs to the veneer. Structurally sound. In good restored condition. Not withstanding this report or any discussion concerning condition of a lot, all lots are offered and sold "as is" in accordance with our conditions of sale.
