Note: Russian-born artist Louis Lozowick moved to New York with his family in 1912 where he studied with Emil Carlsen and Leon Kroll at the National Academy of Design. He joined the army in 1918 and was later stationed in Berlin where he became interested in the work of the Russian avant-gardes. Back in New York, Lozowick's work focused mainly on socially relevant themes, though he is best-known for his modern urban cityscapes. This lithograph of Manhattan is an example of his finest work in the medium. It was published by Associated American Artists.
