Bronze, inscribed ‘Friedlander’ and with the Kunst Foundry N.Y. foundry mark on the base, a unique cast from the plaster maquette for Arts of War: Valor and Sacrifice. 31 x 28 1/4 x 12 3/4 in. Note: American sculptor Leo Friedlander is known for his large classical-style sculptures, the best-known being the pair of gilded bronze equestrian groups that flank the entrance to the Arlington Memorial Bridge in Washington, DC. Arts of War: Valor and Sacrifice were given as a gift from the people of Italy to the people of the US in 1951. They are the largest equestrian sculptures in America, standing over nineteen feet high and are gilded with 24k gold. Provenance: Hirschl & Adler Galleries, NY.,
