Oil and acrylic on canvas in artist-painted wood frame, 1984, signed 'Kenny Scharf', titled and dated on the reverse.
35 1/2 x 23 in., 46 x 34 1/2 in. (frame).
Note: Together with contemporaries Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kenny Scharf was part of the edgy East Village art scene in the 1980s. As with Haring, Scharf's work often includes pop culture icons and references, but he sets himself apart with his futuristic settings and riotous use of color that translate his fascination with science fiction and television from the 1960s. Scharf and Haring shared an apartment in Times Square in the early 80s, and showed together at the Tony Shafrazi Gallery, alongside Donald Baechler. Scharf's practice was multi-faceted, incorporating performance and street art, video, fashion and sculpture as well as painting.
