Provenance: Simon Preston Gallery, NY. Note: Animated Scene was the first of Gerard's works to feature oil derricks, a subject he would pursue in subsequent simulations. The work follows the movement of the drilling apparatus unfolding in a yearly orbital cycle, with accurate light and movement of the sun and stars. This work was conceived of as a pair of simulations side-by-side. This monitor was acquired as a single simulation and will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a thumb drive containing back-up software.
