Note: The inscription to M. Bamberger refers to the owner of the land where Gérome hunted, often twice a week during the season. While best-known for his Orientalist and academic subjects. Gérome was an avid sportsman who also painted scenes of the hunt and dog paintings, as here.

Condition
Canvas slightly loose on stretcher. Rubbing with remains of old frame gilding along the top and right edges. Craquelure and stretcher dents. Otherwise in good condition.
