Unsigned; incorporating curled and foamy waves. 5 1/4 x 24 x 24 in. Note: The Tsunami or the "Great Wave" is one of the most iconic images in Japanese art. Katsushika Hokusai created the famous "Great Wave" colored woodblock print in about 1830 when he was 70. Thousands of images were sold to westerners and influenced artists like Whistler, Van Gogh and Monet. The Great Wave also inspired Debussy's symphony La Mer, as it symbolizes the power of the sea.
