Four engravings on wove paper, 1795-1801. Othello 10 1/4 x 6 1/2 in. (image), 17 1/4 x 17 1/2 in. (sheet); Hamlet 10 3/4 x 6 3/4 in. (image), 17 1/4 x 11 1/2 in. (sheet); King Lear 10 3/4 x 6 3/4 in. (image), 17 1/4 x 11 3/4 in. (sheet); and Merchant 10 3/4 x 6 3/4 in. (image), 17 1/4 x 11 1/2 in. (sheet); all unframed. Note: John Boydell (1719-1804) financed and published the ambitious portfolio of engravings of images from Shakespeare's plays. He commissioned various artists to do the illustrations, and opened a gallery exhibition of the works in 1789. The first set of engravings were issued in 1791. In 1802, Boydell published the nine-volume folio edition, and the next year a two-volume elephany folio. Benjamin Blom published reprints of all the images in 1768. Condition: All with wide margins, some with deckel edges; all with foxing; some staining and surface soiling.,
