Bronze, 1988, signed 'Mitoraj', numbered 8/8 and with a foundry mark at right.
31 x 25 x 15 in.
Note: Rooted in the classical tradition, Mitoraj's sculpture is a modern interpretation of Greek and Roman forms in fragmented pieces. His large-scale version of Luci di Nara was installed at the entrance to the British Museum in London in 2002. Addressing the fragility of ancient sculptures, Mitoraj's work illustrates the physical degeneration of sculpture over time, and, by extension, the question of human beauty and aging. This small version of Luci di Nara was cast in an edition of 8.
