Some from the Ifugao culture, Philippines, ranging in sizes and shapes, eight with covers, two with handles. Together with a Kuba Straw Woven Covered Basket, Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a woven latch it has a painted interior. (9 pieces).

Tallest: 7 x 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 in.

Note: An identical Kuba straw basket is illustrated in Marc Ginzberg, African Forms, Skira, 2000, page 108. Marc Ginzberg describes the weaving technique of the Kuba baskets as "wickerwork" in which the warp is thicker and more rigid than the weft.  Kuba baskets are round with square tops and bases with a central horizontal band made of wood and wrapped with vertical straw strips.
