Sanguine on paper, 1772, unsigned, with label from Thomas Williams Fine Art, Ltd., London. 13 3/4 x 7 3/8 in. (sheet), 25 x 19 in. (frame). Provenance: La Comtesse de Béhague; thence by descent. Note: Cauvet was a prominent sculptor, architect and designer at the French court of Louis XVI. He was the personal sculptor for the King's brother, the Comte de Provence, and directed the Academie de Saint-Luc, the guild of the decorative painters and sculptors.
