Mixed media on board, signed 'G. Ziel' and inscribed '320 E. 57 Street/PL51435' on the reverse.
32 x 29 in., 33 1/2 x 30 1/2 in. (frame).
Note: Born Jerzy Zielezinski in Poland, Ziel was sent to Dachau by the Nazis in 1939 where he documented life in the concentration camp through sketches he made on scraps of paper and cloth with small pieces of found charcoal. Two collections of these sketches were published in book form. After the war, Ziel went on to become a successful book illustrator.
