A group of fifty-eight engravings with hand-coloring on laid paper, 1770-1786. Note: Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux is considered the most important 18th century French ornithological folio. The work was edited by the Comte du Buffon (Georges Louis Leclerc) and published by Edme Louis Daubenton. The complete set includes 1,008 hand-colored prints of birds native to Europe, Asia and the Americas by French artist and engraver Francois Nicolas Martinet., All 11 x 9 1/2 in. (sight), 18 1/2 x 16 1/2 in. (frame).
