Oil on canvas, unsigned, inscribed 'Mrs. Ashburnham, Wife of Sr. Ed: Dering' upper right over 'Ano 1625, AE 18', inscribed 'Ano 1625, AE 18' center right, lined.

49 x 38 in., 62 1/2 x 52 in. (frame).

Note: Anne was the daughter of the writer and peeress Lady Elizabeth Ashburnham and Sir John Ashburnham. Her husband, Sir Edward Dering, was a politician and antiquarian, who rose to favour at the English court through his mother-in-law's connection with the Beaumont family. This is presumably a marriage portrait.

Condition

Lined. Craquelure. Some small scattered spots of inpainting. Surface soiling. The gold inscription upper right is over the inscribed date.
