After a model by Alexander Peter. Fitted with one leaf and one frieze drawer, raised on lappet-headed club legs and pad feet.

27 3/4 x 36 1/4 x 17 3/4 in.

Note: A nearly identical model was offered by Christie's, London, Dumfries House, July 13, 2007, lot 169. Dumfries House was built in Ayrshire, Scotland for William Dalrymple, the 5th Earl of Dumfries by John and Robert Adams in the 1750s. The "fly table" is one of the four tables invoiced by Alexander Peter on August 31, 1758 to the 5th Earl of Dumfries. This form of table with a single flap may be a distinctly Scottish type known as a 'bedroom table'. This handsome multi-purpose bedroom table with palm-wrapped Roman pillar legs terminating in round pads features a writing table drawer and a fly or hinged leg for service as a breakfast table, etc.
