Each with a classical maiden holding aloft a wreath of foliate scrolled candle branches with papyrus cast candle nozzles centered by a malachite torch with a fruiting wreath, raised on a foliate cast-orb on a stepped malachite socle fitted with ribbon-tied wreathes with leaf tip cast borders, the whole raised on malachite pedestals with Medusa masks and addorsed cornucopia, ending on a stepped base. 78 1/4 x 20 1/4 x 19 1/2 in. Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843) was a prominent French sculputor and bronzier. He practiced in the neoclassical taste under the reigns of Louis XVI and Napoleon. He received his training in the workshop of Pierre Gouthiere, before establishing his shop in 1776. One of his most notable commissions was the pair of handles he rendered in the figure of 'Fame' with double trumpets for a massive malachite veneered urn for Count Nicolay Demidoff which currently resides in the Metropolitan Museum.
