Note: Claude Galle (1757-1815) is regarded as a very accomplished Parisian bronzier in the late 18th and early 19th century. He worked collaboratively with Pierre-Philippe Thomire while having his own workshop and trading house of 400 craftsman. He was awarded French royal commissions for the Palais des Tuileries, Chateau de Fontainebleau, Chateau de Compiegne, the Petit Trianon and Grand Trianon in Versailles. And most notably a Russian royal commission for the Czar for a pair of Empire Ewers, the identical model which are on offer. These are located at Pavlovsk Palace, St. Petersburg in one of the great halls. Galle was also awarded a large commission from Napoleon Bonaparte for the Chateau de St. Cloud. Many of his pieces can be seen in museum collections such as Musee National du Chateau de Malmaison, Musee Marmottan in Paris, The Residenz in Munich and the Victorian and Albert Museum in London. Claude Galle died in 1815 after which his son Gerard-Jean Galle (1788-1846) continued the business.
